Thesis: From Street to Screen: Developing Realistic Math Games

My thesis concerned about creating a computer learning game that could increase students’ focus on meaning, motivation, purpose and importance of doing mathematics. Alternative math theories, street math research and various learning game theories gave rise to a theoretical model consisting of 10 design principles that dictates how such a realistic digital math game could be designed. I developed a game in concordance to these design principles and tested it on 37 fifth graders. This test suggested that the game was capable of improving students’ motivation and understanding of purpose and importance of doing math. Report

Roskilde Festival's intranet

The world famous Roskilde Festival wished to improve their existing intranet. Our team of RUC students investigated in cooperation with Roskilde Festival employees the internal communication structures and needs of the Roskilde Festival arrangers. By using web and communication theory, organizational science and qualitative as well as quantitative investigations we ended up submitting a requirement analysis for a future intranet. Report

The Philosophy of Science

A solo essay with me as author investigating epistemology and explaining how science is working and many thoughts behind knowledge creation. Report

Repression and Recovered Memories

In another RUC group we made a theoretically based psychological investigation of how memories can be repressed and recovered. Our investigation revealed the fragility and manipulativity of recovered memories - which in some cases could have tremendous effects on the trustworthiness of witness accounts that are given many years after the experience. Violent Videogames

Does playing violent video games increase aggressive behaviour? In yet another RUC group we made a theoretically based psychological investigation of this topic. Report

Stockholm Syndrome

Stockholm syndrome is the name for the reaction of a hostage taking side with his captor. In yet another RUC group we made a theoretically based psychological investigation of this topic. We made our own theory since we couldn't find adequately solid theoretical foundations for the investigation. We used this theoretical model to attempt to describe the psychological processes that Patricia Hearst and other Stockholm Syndrome candidates went through. Report
